1.6b2 Quicktime (Larger Size)

Reported by wasabe34 | September 21st, 2009 @ 11:00 PM

Have CTF setting "Play H.264 Movies in Quicktime" unchecked.

Go to YouTube.com. Select a video and "Load in QuickTime. At the bottom you will have "Download File" and "(Larger Size)". Clicking on (Larger Size) starts a download of video.mp4.

Should it not refresh the page loading higher res version?

Also I do not understand why the setting "Use Large Version if available" cannot be selected alone. This way I have a choice of loading Flash version or QuickTime (always load in large version).

CTF 1.6b2
Glims RC
Snow Leopard 10.6.1

No, the "(Larger Size)" link is also to download the H.264 file. If you've already clicked on the ClickToFlash view to load the movie, reload the page, and you can hold down option while the gear menu is open to choose the smaller or larger H.264 file (depending on how your preference is set).

"Use Large Version if available" cannot be selected alone because that version is also an H.264 file, so if you don't want to load H.264 files, you cannot load the large H.264 file, either.

I don't understand the problem, though... if you have "Use Large Version if available" checked, you can either click on the ClickToFlash view to load the large H.264 version, or you can choose "Load Flash" from the gear menu to load the Flash version.

Ok thanks, I was confused for bit there and did not realize we could option click gear. I understand the file download now makes sense.

Well here is the situation. I have a few sites that I visit regularly that have multiple YouTube embedded flash videos. These sites are whitelisted as I like to quickly glance if I want to watch the videos in h264. I am not able to check "Play H.264 Movies in QuickTime" or else all these videos would load in the background destroying my bandwidth (Ticket #329). When I want to watch a video what I do is I right click on flash video and select "Watch on YouTube" This will open separate tab in Safari. At this point I have to option click gear "Load Larger Version with QuickTime". Is it possible to get that "Load Larger Version with QuickTime" option by just right clicking instead of option clicking gear.

I would check "Use Larger Version if available" ...but then again I would have to enable "Play H.264 Movies in QuickTime" which then causes unwanted auto loading on the site.

I'm sorry hope this is a little bit clearer now, thanks.

Basically all I am asking is to add "Load Larger Version with QuickTime" like below when right clicking

    Load with Flash
    Load with QuickTime
    Load Larger Version with QuickTime
    Hide Flash
